 Taskforce Fugs R Us 12"

This 'Fugs R Us' has been imminently due for ages - but finally Lowlife have seen fit to drop it onto a platter for the general public. So how good is it?

'Fugs R Us' is dominated by a massive orchestral stab which rocks through the middle of the beat - overpowering all other elements but making a club friendly banger. DJ's wont be afraid of rocking this outta the crate - its Farma G being loud, brash and bold. Not a mood killer but party uplifter. Lyrically its slightly tongue in cheek - blending social commentary with fake gangterisms to make a cutting swipe at harcore hiphop's most marketable elements ('I listen to DMX while flickin thru my pay packet'). You dont need a description of how the McBain Bros flow and deliver - Chester absolutely canes it whilst Farma comes scientific but special mention goes to guest mc Kashmere who really shines - for me he rips the heart outta the track and grills it with his smooth style. Lets see if Westwood gets the joke.

The flip 'Tears On My Pillowcase' steps with the trademark Taskforce elements. A paranoid moody beat taken to strange places by evocative dark conscious lyrics. Whilst I'm not usually a big fan of this type of Taskforce track - this one really hits the spot. Both emcee's absolutely smash it with clever wordplay which sits perfectly across the bleak but powerful production. Turn up the volume but dont expect to smile.

Overall - a high quality twelve that'll give something to every fan of Taskforce. You've got 'Fugs R Us' as a fun track made for playing loud and chuckling, alongside the darkened prowling 'Tears On My Pillowcase' for those individual moments of reflection. Lowlife should shift some units of this - lets hope it makes it onto some rotation and Taskforce get their music out to a wider more diverse crowd of critics.

- Smiffy
