 Lewis Parker Incognito 12"

This is the first single to be released off Lewis Parkers new LP, and the first release Lewis has had in time. Sure there was the ‘Options’ ep, but how many of us were lucky enough to grab a copy of that? Having heard the ‘Options’, this release came as a mild shock to me… Lewis Parker sounds different man! I’m not saying he sounds fake or nothing, but the voice has definitely changed. Still all changes aside, ‘Incognito’ is a very nice little ditty. A proper little head-nodder, with a fairly sharp-snared, low bass affair. Lewis comes with a more confrontational, aggressive vibe than normal. A nice track, that took me by surprise on the vibe front, but on the musical front impressed me.

On the b-side you get ‘At Large With A-Cyde’, which features… A-Cyde funnily enough. This production is on some wet dungeon style, snares are invaded by the occasional miserable drums and a haunting sample… quality! Still, again not typical Parker. A-Cyde isn’t an emcee that I’m familiar with, but he’s dark! Lovely tune…

The a-side wouldn’t have been the track I’d have lifted off the lp, and maybe not even the b-side just for the fact they both give a different view of Lewis Parkers style than is maybe true. Still you get two heavy tunes for your money, even if the a-side does degrade with freshness after a few spins.
