Natural Self I Don't Need This Trouble 12"

all with the trademark loud drums and all complementing each other well to give a varied but cohesive EP
30 seconds of pure soulful harmonies is how this, Natural Selfs first vocal cut starts off, before the choppy big drums kick in and some funky horn stabs, layered over wah-wah'd guitar and bass samples. It's a soulful funky track with Alice Russell's voice working really well over Keno's trademark sounds
The other three tracks are more traditional Natural Self instrumentals taking in his many influences, 'Back To The City' has a choppy rhythmic feel, short sharp cuts of drums and horns reminds of something Kid Koala would produce. 'Foundation Part 2', the sequel to last years Foundation 7" cut, brings in a real African roots vibe with the drums but then when the horns proper come in it feels almost samba-esque, once more Natural Selfs true mix of styles and influences, as ilustrated on his recent mix cd creating and interesting hybrid of a funk track. The final cut 'Raising The Power Of The Earth To The Sky' carries on the drum feel from the previous track, rhythmic African sounding tribal beats but with soul but the horns this time have a much more more olde-tyme feel to them, and interesting hybrid
Once again Natural Self brings an interesting array of influences to the tracks he produces, but all with the trademark loud drums and all complementing each other well to give a varied but cohesive EP
I Don't Need This Trouble is out on Breakin Bread in July, the album will follow in the Autumn
