 fleapit Mangle To This EP

This is the second release on SFDB records, and its another gem. Fleapit are Secondson (beats), Junior Disprol (Rhymes) and Uppacut (Cuts) and all add something to this unique and superb release. The fact that this is the first vinyl release I’ve had that has got a inlay with the lyrics printed on is a huge bonus, and a novel touch. But aesthetics are nothing without product, and this certainly has that. Three tracks deep, with an instrumental of all the tracks, this EP screams quality.

The title track is on some pipes production, rolling bass, all in all its beat is strong. The lyrics are sounding nice with the Welsh accent, and very unique. This isn’t in a bad way, but Junior Disprol can stand out from the crowd with his head up high. The next track ‘Lord Blatchford’s Conquest’ is the best track, taking you back to medieval Britain, with a nice old folk song being used as the production, with the beats building the track up into more than a well picked sample. The emcee is on point again, throwing in clever rhymes and playing different roles in the track, it’s a must hear! The final track ‘For Goodness Sakes’ gives yet more to this EP, with label mates DFXO giving their own evilly sick lyrics, with Junior Disprol doing what he’s done throughout the EP. All lay down the rhymes well, but Xeno of DFXO comes out the most confident. The beats are on a different vibe to the other tracks, using a funk guitar as the sample and small hits. This track also has some nice cuts by Uppacut to polish the track off.

This is a must for any hiphop fan, if you can’t get into this I’d be surprised. My only criticism is a possible lack of bass on the tracks, maybe this is Secondson’s style however…
