The Nextmen The Next Trend 12"

The Nextmen prepare us for their next LP (due September) with this taster 12. Here we get a quality double a-side featuring Mystro and Braintax.

I'll start with my favourite track 'The Next Trend' which gives Mystro solo vocal duties. This is a nice optimistic happy track - Mystro rips the booth off its hinges with a heavy performance. The mad flows are itchingly accompanied with a pucca bouncing beat killing it with a ruff African vocal chorus hook. As a track - its short n' very simple - but in that respect its effective n' without none of that ponce flabby bullshit. This is a super tight track - The Nextmen have given Mystro the perfect beat for his style of delivery - mid tempo, stab laden n' layered with touches to keep it deadly. Mystro's lyrics are on point n' you cant fault the infectious butter delivery cos its both over easy n' sunnyside up.

The flip features both Braintax and Mystro on 'Liven it Up'. The beat is funky and busy sounding - the use of a swift guitar lick gives an urgent sound. The guitar loop sorta dominates the whole sound of the track - its well up n' slightly overbearing in the mix. The tempo of this loop pushes the vibe with Mystro and Joey Brains both lyrically delivering at the right pace for a tight sound. Mystro again shines strong - although the lyrics arent going to short circuit your braincells - its basically "lets have a party" track. I think the lyricists have been shown to work perfectly in partnership - they both step differently in vibe but combine with similar qualities in diction. A top notch track which should be useful for heating up mellow moods.

Overall - a real nice 12 with excellent sound quality - clear vocals and deep beats make this a definite killer at all volume levels. Definitely worth checkin next time you pass through your local wax emporium. Its looking all good for this second LP - more UK badness to smack up the charts.
