 Limitless Governmentality (demo)

The Production of Demos has got better over the years as has the promotion and over all package and this release is no different. A superb cover design by Hype ensures this one catches your eye… you can see a but coming cant you? But, I think Limitless has let himself down to a degree. His delivery on Stiff Upper Lip Shit is drastically different from The Winner Takes it all and others. Stiff Upper Lip Shit is a good tune and a superb idea, but I cant help but feel his delivery was too half hearted, I think even he would admit that himself. The Winner Takes It All, by contrast sounds like a different Emcee and this is how Limitless should stay. The Production is good and sounds very much like the Syndicate One tracks, which comes as no surprise as he is part of that crew as well. However, in places I think the guys on production should dig deeper for those breaks and not rely too much on the synth sounds, its good once or twice but can get repetitive and sound like a poor mans Eminem as a result, Opinions would be one such example.

Governmentality the title track, discusses the evils of the state over a nice atmospheric piano break, Limitless unfortunately has again lost the gusto he had in the earlier tracks and results to a lazy delivery that the listener by now is more than aware that he is capable of more. Provoking has a strangely haunting sample and Limitless spits again over this track at 100% accuracy, proving again that he is more than capable. Vize on production here, merits a mention as the breaks mould well together with the subject matter and change the shape of the track as a whole.

Once Upon a Time and Got To Do It finish off the Demo, with standout lines like “goes down quicker than a whore Abseiling” giving the listener true skills to ponder over. Unfortunately, Limitless, on the last track, has again lost all his gusto and here has even resorted to singing in part. Do yourself a favour mate, don’t do that, Yes you Got to Do It, just don’t do that!

Overall, this is a good first release and Limitless can only learn from this and aspire into the Emcee he clearly could be.
