Baptist Common Demomination (demo)
Baptist – Common Demoniation demo cd
The Baptist is an Australian lad who now lives in Edinburgh. This – as far as I’m aware – is his first solo effort, but he’s also part of a crew called Suga Heights, also from Australia.
That out the way…………his Demo. What’s it’s like?
It kicks off with ‘The Deal’ a real nice track, kinda reminiscent of a Diamond D beat. It’s got heavy bass and nice kicks, but over all it’s a real chilled head nodder. The Baptist is a good emcee, he comes across really well on all his tracks, but he is from Australia and he does rap American.
Now, I could go into why emcees shouldn’t follow the American’s, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah…..but, I won’t. He gets away with it. Listening to him, you wouldn’t for one second think that he wasn’t from America. Is this what he set out to do…..i don’t know? But he does it well.
Track 2 is ‘Part of my Team’ and features D Minor on the hooks. This again, is a real laid back tune.
In fact, this demo reminds me of the kind of Hip Hop the East Coast of America were putting out around the ‘93/’94 era. It’s all good. It does take you back, and it does make you feel good.
Next up is ‘Hot Shit’ featuring Foulmouf. This is a great track. Again, kinda like Diamond D’s kinda stuff. I can really see Talib Kweli rapping over all these tracks. Foulmouf, along side Baptist brings nice lyrics, delivered well.
The CD finished, well almost…………..it has got 2 hidden tracks. Ha! Nice touch for a demo.
The first of the hidden tracks features Suga Heights. Same as before, nice melodic beats and tight rhymes.
Thing is with these boys, they sound more Australian than the other emcees on the demo, which is nice. I really like the Australian accent in Hip Hop.
This is a good demo, one you should check for.
You can e mail Baptist at online@baptist.com I’m sure he’ll be able to sort you out with a copy.
