Louis Bostonne Thought Fulla Fings (demo)
Louis Bostonne a young emcee from Cardiff city, releases his first demo ‘Thought Fulla Things’ and he sure does have a hella lot to talk about over beats ranging from ODB’s ‘Where’s Your Money’ and Mr Smiths ‘Witness The Fitness’.
Unlike so many demos that get dumped on the doormat of ukhh.com towers, this CD demonstrates what can be done by jacking a few beats and putting some fresh concepts together. For such a young emcee (18/19 I think), the range of subjects on offer is really impressive and they are already more broad and exciting than many of the more established hiphop acts out there right now. Not only that, but Louis has clearly got an ear for arranging his lyrics using different pitches, tones and flows, which always makes for a better listening pleasure than just a barrage of battle rhymes and long words. ‘Sight Or Song’ does this brilliantly, with the emcee’s personality oozing out of your speakers from both the lyrics like “I come from the era of Maggie Thatcher, jobless people, cheesy rock and men in make up” but also the way they’re delivered. ‘Young Louis’ takes the ‘Little Derek’ beat from Sway, a master at adding character to lyrics, and again adds a blend of impressive lyrics and delivery.
It is very hard get a real feel for an emcee until they have hooked up some beats of their own, but this demo shows that if Mr. Bostonne gets the production side right and continues to develop his lyrical style then he’s got as gooda chance as most to make a real impact on the scene. The fact that this demo is listenable despite poor microphone recording levels is testament, one to watch fo’ sure!
