Blood & Jonez are one of the only Derby hiphop groups I’ve encountered, and they have adorned the title ‘Derby’s Finest Hiphop Act…’ so I’m not one to argue. You may have seen them kicking keystyles on our very own battle board, or you may have seen them at shows including that rather large ‘Off The Hook’ event thing in Derby. This promotional single is to get your juices flowing for the album they are doing, so what do we make of it at ukhh.com? Well I’ve got two tracks to mull over, the first and weaker being ‘Visions Of Grandeur’. A rather up-tempo ditty with production that’s ok, but it does sound somewhat home-made. Its not crappy, just sounds like it needs a bit more ‘chunk’ in those beats. However the lyrics are of a high standard, and this is obviously what the duo pride themselves on most. I’m not sure how long these two have known each other, but its clear that they know each other’s style inside out. They pass the Mic between with confidence, and both can boast good lyrics. ‘Look How We Bleed’ is a better track with much better production that sounds less thrown together. A great use of a sample is what makes this track, but again I would love to hear the track with more bass. The lyrics on the first track were nice, but these rhymes are much better and set a high standard. Truly wicked imagery, and flows that could hold their own against many emcees. This is the sort of track that you would like to own, and I know it will get many play in my house. The second track is the main reason that I will look forward to the album, as the first track was ok, but it needs some tweaking if they are going to put it on the album. There’s no doubt there is something forming here, it just needs a more professional feel and all will be dappa.
