Delegates of Culture The Delegates of Culture (demo)

The Delegates of Culture have produced a nicely worked n' talented first demo CD - I'm sure there will be lots of interest falling in their direction off the back of this ting here. The tracks have nice variation in production - whilst retaining a quite high standard of sound and some lovely touches of originality (something which you always check for within a first time demo). Straight from the off it becomes apparent that this crew have got ideas in abundance - sometimes this causes too much changes within one track (like a beat or emcee giving way to a seriously weaker alternative).... but then again this is picking at the fine seams of what is a pucca package. The emcees have a nice clear flow and some insightful lyrics - this isn't a bunch of clone rhyme writers as each brings a different angle to themselves both through rhyming patterns n' the style of vocal flow. Lemme explain it through an example cos within The Pinnacle theres tasty but sharply varied beats warping around each of the five emcee's (getting done in a Skitz style of morphing production for every verse). However the diverse variation of the crew is nicely illustrated with the very next track (Smoke Inc Hills) which contrastingly is a slow slow slow atmospheric head nodder with the focus switching off of neck cracking and into building a more complete sound - it works well. Again - things take a new shape and darker twist within Rumble with the Hunger (as featured being performed live on the pucca Bruk faders mixtape) - I personally like the beat on this a lot but others I've shown it to have not felt some of the emceeing match the standards set earlier in the CD. This is superseded by the most stable song on the CD - Organic - which features some nice (but not groundbreaking) beatboxing to accompany a recorded but very stagnant beat and some ok flow. However - these tracks are all moved aside by the last track which is an exceptional bit of hiphop (called Lose it Nicely) - it comeswith french n' english lyricism and a super beat of guitar n' haunting female vocal...n' some wicked scratched Taskforce vocals - yeah man .... thats some badness right there.

Overall - I like the CD a lot....but strangely found it a very hard thing to review (maybe cos its my first demo review). I think this crew have the potential to really refine their sound and choose a destination for themselves. Somebody should be making noise n' chatting to these mans here - oh hold up people are on the case already! DOH - Check for their Resented EP set to drop round the summer months.
