Focussed Few
Demo 2002 (Demo)
Could this be the British version of
The Roots? I say this because there are few acts in the UK at the moment using Bass, Drums, Keys and Decks. To compare them to The Roots, who have achieved so much, is evidently unfair. However,
Focused Few are a talented collective, at least judging on the basis of the two tracks I have here.
'It's All There' starts off immensely cheesy, but give it ten seconds and it all comes together. Nice fresh, organic sounding beats, even if it does possibly sound too clean. The lyrics are slightly weak at times; but in general they're good enough to hold the track together. It's on 'I Came To Blaze' that all parties in the group shine the most. Some really slick, rolling beats, laced by some lovely keyboard action. The rappers excel, dropping some highly entertaining and intelligent lyrics… its not often you hear the Venezuelan capital of Karakas dropped into a hiphop chorus is it?
They've been making music as a collective since late 2000, and with the tunes they make starting to bubble to the surface right about now, it looks bright for their future. Already beginning to forge a fairly distinctive sound, and put together well-rounded tracks, I look forward to hearing what they come up with next; you should too.
Lets hope so.
