 Mystro Music Mystro EP

After an understated intro from Harry Love, the title track of this EP from talented rapper Mystro, “Music Mystro” starts with a funny skit before launching into another instrumental by Harry Love, this time, a little faster, a little more urgent. Mystro attacks this beat stronger, with his punch line heavy, breathless flow. The chorus, relying on call and response, perfectly suited for tearing apart a dance floor. Short and sweet, it goes into Braintax-produced “Nutrition”, which is a sparse drum beat interspersed with guitar and electronic noises. Another battle rhyme, Mystro handles the out of place drum kicks and snares and keeps a constant breathless rhythm that slowly gets more and more furious by the chorus. The flipside starts with another skit before launching into the talented Blufoot’s produced “Awkward Thief”. Mystro raps about robbing people for everything they’ve got. After the punch line-heavy tracks on the other side, this is calmer and funny. The instrumental has a nice piano tingle over synths stabs and electric organs. Blufoot creates a cool lounge-worthy track for Mys-diggi. The only problem with this track is that the vocal mix is a little low and the bass kicks drown Mystro out in places. RawDog-produced “Yeah!!” is a funkier affair still, carrying on the calmer feel to the second side. Nice bass work and piano twinkles flourish with tight scratches. Mystro delivers another club track that stays faithful to his roots.

This is a tight release and like “Tellin’ You” shows that Mystro is easily one of the country’s finest. Though his strong delivery seems to ease itself over the beat, you can tell that a lot of experience, practice and charisma have gone into producing some of the tightest vocals the UK scene has heard for some time. Mystro is going places and this lion certainly goes from strength to strength. Own this one too.
