 Dead Residents Poltergeist Frequency EP

RAH! Dead Residents are back with some nasty, dirty, hip-hop ish.

Junior Disprol’s Dead Residents crew drop their next EP on the Sin-Nombre label, leaving a slew of dirty beats and punch-heavy lyrics in their wake. This eagerly anticipated 6-track return of Junior Dis’ does not disappoint, with every track on point, and Wig Out being played recently on 1xtra.

Poltergeist Frequency is exactly as would be expected, with the drum-heavy, bassy production style of Evil One (Dry Knives), combining with the more up-tempo, scratch & sample laced feel of Walk on Glass. Both tracks benefit fully from the no-holds-barred style and delivery of JD, as always adding extra weight to the tracks.

Official is a much slower, break & bass offering, with a sound reminiscent of Rakim’s Mahogany. This, along with All Time Dirty, tones down the EP, giving the eardrums respite through the eerily beautiful piano chords, and a touch of dark humour from the samples. Any track, however dark, will always get a second hearing using the sample “When will my testicles bleed with joy?”

The last two tracks, 3 or 4, and Wig Out take it back up another level in tempo, darkness, and lyrical punch. Wig Out stands out as a dirty highlight. The guitar riff is as ruff as it comes on this EP, lyrics are rugged & raw…….You only need one listen to get hooked on this, “You ain’t mother Theresa, slap the next geezer with bacardi breezer”. A proper mash-up, mosh-out tune! Well worth the pennies.
