VARIOUS THE BEST OF LEWIS RECORDINGS EP

It is telling when a rapper who fuses psychedelic pop referenced production with Kool G Rap-style wordplay is among the more conventional artists featured on a labels compilation album. As is the case with Edan. Five years on since Lewis Recordings and Edans excellent debut single ‘Mic Manipulator’ was released the label continues to grow.

New material from Edan is included; the haunting ‘The Gods Of Rome’ instrumental as well as a dope ‘Emcees Smoke Crack Remix’. Also as an exclusive cover of Shania Twains ‘A Thing Called Love’, from Kutmaster Kurt. Dooley-Os inclusions are of a more melancholic nature to what I would have previously associated him with (‘Headbangers Ball’). Mighty Casey’s ‘White Lines’ parody, ‘White Girls’, is one of the funniest songs I have heard in a while. He may sound like a piss head when he raps but it certainly didn’t do Tha Alkaholiks any harm.

Andrew Thompson brings the weirdness with ‘We’re in Business’ and ‘There Must Be Some Sort Of Misunderstanding’. The first being a song about Andrews love-hate relationship with a nameless robot, the second, an issue concerning a fly in his soup. Cinnamons bleepy, Gameboy-esc ‘Cakes And Pies’ is a strangely pleasing listen.

For an eccentric compilation of musicians Lewis Recordings takes the ‘old-fashioned’ approach of making this strictly CD release only available in the UK. So if you are in need of a left field fix, go cop it!
