Caskade & Carpe Diem Seize The Mic EP
Cardiff duo, consisting of beatsmith Carpe Diem and emcee Caskade are focusing minds onto the currently resurgent Welsh scene with their 8 track EP. And with the quality of material evident on this release, the current resurgence looks set to continue too!
The beat styles are varied, but are in the most part dark and moody, much like the Welsh weather. This is no pretty boom-bap, but some misery inducing grinders and this theme is carried on by the none to cheery emceeing from Caskade. Thankfully this style is done with the correct level of indulgence, and never sounds too intentionally dark. Tracks like “The God Delusion” show a high level of lyrical and productional skill to address a really deep subject. Still, “Jus Music” shows a bit more of a general wordplay theme and has a real head-nodder of a beat. Just goes to show these boys aren’t two dimensional!
This release is sure to please many, but it’s generally not for those who like music to invigorate the soul and raise a smile. This is raw music investigating dark corners, watch your back suckas!
