 Breakin' Bread Jax

A freezin cold rainy December evening nothing new there then, but tonight I am not bothered because I am off to Breakin Bread one of the capitals top B-boy nights.

I have been to this night on various occasions and always had a good time. The previous instance before was when Newcastle City Breakers battled Funk And Disorderly (London), it was very heated to say the least which made for high-quality viewing especially as it was a first-rate standard of breakin from both crews. So with good reason I was looking forward to the event.

We arrived at ten thirty and found the place buzzin, the guest crew for the evening was Trinity from Derby, unfortunately Enemy Squad had not been able to get down but nevertheless a battle kicked off between Trinity and some of the locals from Monkey Basket and Foundations. Trinity had some tight routines and coupled with the cheekiness of the local lads it made for a good encounter.

Entertainment does not stop with the B-boys/Girls, they also have open mic session.
This evening there was no shortage of MCs with one in particular called Rolf Harris, they all kicked ass even Rolf despite the lack of wobble board and beard.

Music for the night was supplied by the residents, Rob Life, Skeg and Tufkut and also the boys from Derby J2, Hudson and Gidge. There were top tunes all night with breaks, funk, Hip Hop amongst other stuff.

All in all I had a quality time. Thanks to Wayne and his mate from Monkey Basket for the battle, imaginative stuff with bar stools, oh-er. Cheers also to Diccon from Foundations for backing us up, Stan and myself are grateful.

Breakin Bread is to be found at JAX on Shand Street near Tower Bridge five minutes walk from Tower Bridge station. They also host a night on itch 105.15fm Sundays 4-6pm and if that’s not enough they also have a record label phew.

Next night is on 25th January 03 with Sinstars B-boyin and Mr Thing showin his skills.
