 Fright Night Hanover Grand

Set off from my house at roughly 10:30pm, for the 40 min journey.
Now I ain’t gunna lie but the main reason I attended is that Nex Wavelength were due to do their first PA as a unit.
We bypass the queue (guest list business) and get escorted to the VIP area, were I find NW lounging in what seems to be a very relaxed atmosphere. Cream and his guests are at the table next to us, but no conversation is exchanged. Fredi Kruga is nowhere to be seen.

Anyway I speak to MCM and ask if he’s nervous, as he hasn’t been on stage for a little while now, he tells me he’s cool now, but got a few butterflies at the sound check earlier. Que on the other hand seems a little irritated, I ask him what’s up and get “Man, we ment to be on at 12am, (it’s now 12:30am) an them guys (Cream’s lot) ain’t done their shit yet” I ask him if he’s nervous and he assures me he just wants to get on with it.

Anyway, roughly 15 mins later, the event organiser takes to the stage, “This is it” says Que, and the 3 MC’s make their way to the back of the stage. After a few minutes of the event mans waffle NW take to the stage..
“Whassup Hanover Grand” shouts MCM and the guys start their set. MCM’s ability to rock, has an immediate impact, and Que seems to bounce off a M’s energy, running round the stage, spitting lyrics like a seasoned pro, Code Red remains calm throughout the set, reciting with precision and a air of authority.
All in all NW put on a good performance, and get a well-deserved acknowledgement from the crowd.

However, when I go up to get their opinions on how they thought it went, Que don’t seem to happy, “Whassup?” I ask “Man we were gunna do the 3 tunes an then play this beat an call yourself an Celltrait up on the stage with us, but they cut it short man” I tell him that it’s cool an that if I had expected it I might be gutted, but as I didn’t, it didn’t matter.

So while we’re all talking, we get “We got a star in the house, and for those of you who seen the movie, an thought he was white, your wrong” . Mr event man introduces Fredi Kruga, and we get some horror type music, which FK staggers onto the stage to, at this point he rips his mask and introduces himself.
Now I know FK’s getting a lot a press right now, some good, some bad, but me myself wasn’t really feeling him, that is until tonight.
His stage presence is awesome, and he has an image that makes you wanna listen to what he’s got to say, his delivery again was tight and although his music ain’t really my first choice a listening, I have to say he won me over, especially when I stepped to speak to him, I tell ya for a man called FK he really is a nice guy, and with all the press he has been getting, he seemed overwhelmed by the fact that I approached him. (Watch this space for the interview).

Anyway that all done, I shall now tell you about the poorest, most diabolical, joke type, disgusting Hip Hop I have ever witnessed. Ladies and gentlemen I present to you, Cream.
My first reaction when this guy came on was “What the fuck?”. Why ? you may ask, well let me tell you, like NW, Cream is from my native High Wycombe, and although I don’t really know him (I was introduced to him years ago, but boy am I glad we never hooked up) I’ve seen him around.
He came on the stage to “One more time” buy Biggie, and I thought, ok that’s what he uses to come out to, Hell no, to my surprise Cream proceeds to drop lyrics over the track, “So what’s up with that?” I hear you ask, nothing except that he’s dropping Biggie’s rhymes as well. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, even more so when he told the crowd he was from NYC.
Now me myself, I believe that if you don’t like something you shouldn’t review it, but I have to make an exception on this one.
Cream’s show was nothing short of bullshit, he did around 4 tunes, each one a Puffy produced number to which he rapped the artist in questions lyrics. He did however treat us to some of his own lyrics, which were, and believe me I ain’t bullshiting “ I Hip to the Hop, cause I just can’t stop” and “Mirror mirror on the wall”. Just think how myself an NW felt when he gave his shout out to “My High Wycombe posse in the corner”. It was pitiful, and call me nasty, but I was disgusted.
I did have to laugh though, when Scanner (the Dj from True Focus) started taunting Cream with shouts of “CB4”. At one point me myself was gunna relieve Cream of his mic, but knowing that it takes balls to get on stage and do your stuff, shit or not shit, I decided to let him finish his set.

So that was really about it for the Hip Hop side of things, apart to say that Da Firing Squad came on after Cream, but we left when they started playing tunes “For the Garage Massive”

Overall this was a good night, and it was one of the only times that I have been to a club that managed to get the mic levels correct. All the MC’s were clear and I didn’t have to strain to hear what they were saying.
