Mystro & Jargon @ Higher Learning The Toucan Club, Cardiff

In recent times the amount of decent hip hop nights being put on in
Cardiff has been shoddy to say the least. So it was really nice to hear
about this Brotherz Grimm night in the Toucan Club, bringing down Mystro and Jargon. It was three squid to get in and there was three rooms all playing hip hop... Now I went to see The Creators a week or two earlier, in another club across the road, that was five pounds to get in, and the entertainment being shown on that night wasn't half as good as this.

The night was warmed up with 4 local DJ's, Paul B, Jaffa, 4 Dee and Cuz. With Nayton from Erban Poets on the mic. During the evening Mystro and Jargon mingled well with the crowd and seemed genuinely happy to be here. Some drinks and Jamaican woodbines were consumed by all, and after the long wait ( possibly too long ), Mystro and Jargon are up on stage.

After introducing themselves and hyping the crowd, they let rip with some verses from their tracks such as Words Out and Kiss That Ass Goodnight, with Ruffstylez handling the business on the ones and twos. Mystro and Jargon also dropped some quality battle type acapella verses, but my tendency to consume broccoli and drink my pockets empty has left me without the ability to quote much of the lyrics from the night, but you will just have to trust me, there was ridiculous stuff in there.

The turntables are stopped and Mystro and Jargon announce that they are no longer Mystro and Jargon, but ' The Natural Born Spittaz'. This very
quickly leads into a chant and I don't think there was a person in the
crowd who would have doubted that these two manz are natural born
spitters. They continued to stomp through a tight set full of punchlines and mind boggling rhyme patterns, which kept the crowd fixated on the stage for the duration.

The show was full of crowd participation, humour and quality rhymes, and it was worth every penny and more. The crowd was blessed with some
blinding accapella verses and before you could say its over Mystro and
Jargon are thanking the audience and leaving the stage....however after a wild assault of screams and cheers, they returned to the stage and
continued spitting heavy stuff.

Once the last rhymes had been spat, they left the stage and before you
knew it, the open mic had set in and the stage was bumrushed with crack
heads, piss heads, pill poppers and have a go hero's. Which was a shame
because there was actually some really good emcee's there trying to use
the occasion showcase their talent. Soon it became clear that the
organisation of this open mic was non-existent and eventually control was lost and things kind of fell apart. There was about 15 or more emcees all up on the stage trying to get a peice....it was a brutal scene, a bit reminiscent of a Royal Rumble or some shit.

But anyway.....it was all good fun and I have to say that this is probably the best hip hop night in Cardiff since Kela, Thing, Vadim, A-Cyde and Mr Complex last year.

Big shouts out to the Brotherz Grimm and big shouts out to Mystro and
Jargon, who I hope will return to Cardiff.

Nice one everybody and I'll catchue inadee fuchure
