Black Samurai ‘Life As A Struggler’ LP

This is a producer from Birmingham, or it maybe a group of producers but I’m not sure. Whatever, this album is one nicely rounded piece of work. The whole album features Moorish Delta 7 to drop lyrics all the way through on its 20 tracks. The first track ‘iiDays Mathematics’ is a fucking stomper especially if you like the rugged sounds of other artists such as MSI & Asylum. Basically this track is straight up lyrics being passed around the numerous MC’s with some beats that are hard and deep. Track 11 is ‘Close ii You’ which is a very smooth song, laid-back beats and a sample of violin that stalks the backing. I bit of singing for the chorus with lyrics coming fast all the way through, it’s a well impressive track. ‘Elegba, Jaed’ is another class track, with yet again rugged lyrics being spat by many MC’s, over the top of a deep beat and piano loop. ‘Murder The Devil’ wins the weirdest MC’s in Britain competition, not sure of the blokes name but he has one hell of a lisp going on. The track is soon redeemed though by other smooth rappers taking over. Race seems to be a theme through the album, about Black peoples struggles in the past and for the future, this leads to most of the tracks being fairly dark, that’s the words I’ve been looking for, dark!

Its an album that you will HATE if you don’t like mad lyrics and if you are afraid of the dark. The production is nice, don’t get me wrong but it tends to serve the purpose of supporting the rappers and not much more. Saying that there are tracks that have been programmed very nicely. All I can say is check this album out, and look out for more Black Samurai. NOTE – Do not listen to when depressed!
