Delegates Of Culture Headcleaners 02:Headcleaning LP

If your on the ball with your hiphop you’d already know who the Delegates Of Culture are as of the year ’00. However at the same time I wouldn’t be that shocked to find out you don’t have a clue who they are… frankly the Delegates don’t get enough props! Hopefully your ignorance will end very soon, because this second full length CD by the Delegates is heavy like your grandma’s knickers full of lead-shot.

Let me breakdown how this project is put together. The Delegates are a crew who are predominately based in Cambridge, yet have members from Belgrade, Canada, Britain and others. They’re a make up of rappers and beatsmiths who’ve got a load of well respected UK heads to collaborate on their tracks. This means you get a Delegates Of Culture LP, with an almost compilation feel due to all the collaborations. In fact not many tracks are just the Delegates, with ‘Thinking’ being the best with it’s large, large beat. Some very clever wordplay is delivered, showing that the Delegates don’t just rely on collabo’s in order to sound good!

There’s no doubting that the Delegates have some hefty contacts in the business, and they use them to great effect. The track with Tommy Evans & Yungun ‘Pulse Reclusive’ has to be up there with the best of the year… anyone who doubts Yungun’s skills needs a slap god speed. Both tracks with Junior Disprol are on some next shit, with the Delegates style suiting that of the madman from South Wales. ‘Back To Riviera’ feat. Jehst & Braintax is an impressive follow up to ‘Rivera Hustle’, trust it does the original justice! Shit man there’s loads of heavy tracks on this LP, too many to mention, but let me say Probe Mantis and Taskforce both collaborate well!

In my mind this is easily up there in the must have hiphop LPs that have come out of the UK this year. It more than stands up to an international standard too, so don’t think I’m just favouring UK product. The only real criticism is the fact that this album sounds far more like a compilation than a Delegates Of Culture LP. This doesn’t let the project down too much, but it does kick into touch any real feel of fluidity. I’d definitely like to see a full length no nonsense Delegates LP, as they’ve all got the skills to hold it down. Anyway, fuck it… this is one for the collection, definitely summin’ for everyone.
