UK hip hop’s most recognisable voice drops an impressive self produced solo LP on the newly resurrected 691 Influential imprint. It seems life as a solo artist suits Blade who’s managed to recombine his trademark simple rhyme patterns alongside production laden with diverse live instruments. Lyrically the album is trademark Blade with pathos filled couplets venting frustration and anger towards a range of media industry targets – nobody does it better and I wouldn’t want anything different. However, it is the production that shines within the thirteen tracks with a real sense of musical exploration and free panache being displayed in the Eastern percussive ‘Blow You Out Of The Frame’, from the strangely memorable ‘I Wonder’, to the quirky squelchy b-line driven’ Rink’. Overall, if you’re a Blade fan you’ll love it for providing an alternative to that flatulent Kanye West CD – if your not already a fan then this record will be an excellent introduction into the unique world of Armenia’s finest export.
