Debut longplayer from the Brighton based quintet. Vocal duties are handled by twin emcees Junior Red and MC Buzz – both of whom flow with a style utilising their ragga, reggae, and drum n’ bass background to mix tempo n’ diction to good effect. On the boards – Pablo and Warwick – have generated hard hip hop production alongside garage tinged beats and mood-filled breakdowns to best suit the eclectic flows of the main vocalists. Nice examples can be found on the foreboding soundscape used on ‘Set Wrecka’, the bass stab laden ode to weed ‘Blazini’, personal favourite ‘Cyaan Do Dat’ takes ragga flows and sits a chunky thumping break to give it drive and purpose, whilst headnodder ‘Suiink’ manufactures mood through the clever use of dominating digital fx. With live evocative cuts like these you can be sure they absolutely rip it in the flesh – they’ve made it onto my ‘must see’ list. Overall, a very interesting LP illustrating a deep but varied sound that fits perfectly into the hip hop sound of 2004 whilst still retaining a healthy respect for the influence of past exponents within UK drum n’ bass/garage.
