Mister Format is back! Brighton’s finest is doing it again this year, with the follow up to his ‘Music for the Mature BBoy’ LP. A master of breaks, and pretty deft at cut and paste too, Format delivers another lovely slice of hip hop funk with Canada’s finest MC, Abdominal, joining him once more alongside J5’s Charlie 2na and Akil and the brand new addition to the Format family of another Canadian MC, D-Sisive. For those of you not familiar with Format’s work, think along the lines of simple yet effective breaks and samples coupled with tight production and some of finest lyrics and flows around. Oh yeah and a sprinkling of Bboy ethic that make it irresistible not to shake your head. It might not be groundbreaking but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! The addition of D-Sisive alongside Abdominal (who as an MC is definitely one of the most under rated around) is a very nice touch and lifts the LP up perfectly as they alternate throughout the album and join on a couple of tracks. His flow varies nicely from Abdominal’s slightly faster pace (as anyone who’s seen him live will attest, the man can rhyme fast… very, very fast) and also sits perfectly on top of Format’s productions. Charlie 2na and Akil return once more for a track called ‘The Place’, with a lovely piano riff and guitar lick on which the J5 duo flex their lyrical muscles with style and finesse. The album is completed by 3 instrumental tracks, including a remix of the BBoy bonanza that is ‘2, 3… Scrape’, rounding off another quality offering from Format. Oh yeah and this album also features what has to be the funniest song of the last few years, ‘Ugly Brothers’, which sees Abdominal explain why and how his and Format’s sisters are hot, and quite frankly they’re not. Trust in Format and buy this LP.
