After a few solo and joint releases with the likes of Mystro, Blufoot is finally stepping into the arena with his first album, ‘The Ablution’. If you follow UK hip hop with interest you’ve probably heard the name before, and quite rightly so as the man’s been responsible for some lovely tracks in the last few years. This album takes all this grounding work of his further, with the help of some fine microphone talent from the likes of Infinite Livez, Sway, Yungun and of course Mystro as well as some unknowns like Mic Assassin. Overall the LP is really nice, the production is on point through out with highlights like ‘My Biro’ and ‘Alphabet Man’. Blufoot shows some versitality in his tracks, from straight up boom bap to more diverse rhythms and melodies, which make the listening experience more pleasant than for most hip hop albums these days. The variation of MCs throughout is another highlight, as each offers up something different and fits the track pretty damn well. And the featurings never feel like they’re forced. There are a couple of tracks I wasn’t really feeling, like ‘Big Bang Theory’, but overall this is definitely a nice album and shows that the man has some serious talent and can produce something which is more then the sum of its parts. So in conclusion: get on this, you’ll find something you like and won’t regret it.
