DJ Dough & Porge 1 Heads Ain’t Ready LP

If mid to late 90’s east coast hiphop is your bag, then this mix CD brought to you by indelible is indeed your bag! More D.I.T.C. than you could shake a Big L style pimp stick at, this mix certainly has continuity of track selection. Classic Nas, Wu, Black Moon, Royal Flush and Snoop (ok ok, it’s not all east coast!) blended together with some high level cuttery is just the job for chucking on at a party. Whilst the artist roster might leave you thinking that you’d own all the tracks here anyway, think again. Some of this ish is not that easy to get hold of… exhibit A, Nas ‘Life Is Like A Dice Game’. Even when a track that you may know real well does get mashed into the mix, then it’s likely to have been rehashed by the two deejays to keep things fresh.

On at least three occasions, artists acappellas are layered over the top of 4 bar snippets of the same artists other releases. Whilst this may not sound all that stimulating, it is! Listening to Snoops ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ over his classic beats gives the previously rather dry track and whole new meaning.

Even though this mix CD at times feels over embellished and farted around with (hey most mixes sound like that to me), there’s no doubt these two deejays have skills and a nice record goodie-bag to pull from. So if you feel like taking yourself back to the 90’s, buy a copy of this, then try find some Mountain Dew or a pack of Jolly Ranchers, and reminisce away!
