Uber-producer Blufoot producer finally drops the long-anticipated debut album we’ve all been salivating for, since his “Open Mic” release with Mystro. This is an impressive package,a white-knuckle ride through Blufoot’s mind, featuring some of the best rappers in the country as well as some lesser known but soon to be huge people. Impressive and notable tracks feature Sway’s impeccable medieval nightmare story in “Nathan Venus”, a modern day loose-lipped Chaucer-like lyric offering a mediation on small-town mentality and the things people do for lust. The beat it laces works well with the rapper’s voice and allows him space to get vivid and descriptive. Infinite Livez and ME’s track, “Inntchaa” is another notable track, if only for the sense of urgency it has, with the martial arts-esque percussion. The deep brass and menacing strings allow Infinite and Marcus Explains to drop some seriously deranged and mental battle lyrics from their mind’s eye. Joker Starr pops up on “Big Bang Theory”, a track that seems to be the anti-MOP track, in that the verse are banging and flowing and really uptempo, whereas the chorus and hook seems to slow down. It’s all an interesting and brilliant listen. Blufoot’s talent for picking rappers and given them custom-made beats is impressive. The beats are all uptempo, funky, accessible and headnodding. There is never a dull moment on here. I could go on listing all the tracks, but there’s no point, it needs to be bought. From Yungblud to Yungun to Ddubble Impacct to MI5 to Riot, everyone here drops some knowledge and some seriously funky lyrics. Blufoot prides himself in working with rappers, getting them to have input into the beat, and this shows. No one here spits over a beat that was finished when it was given to them. There’s a sense of call and response, synergy between the producer and the rapper, and this is what makes Blufoot stand out as a producer. Highlight track here is “Whispers”, featuring every rapper in the album. It starts off as a simple story of a man on a night out, but as each rapper spits their 2 bars, building on the story the previous rapper has built, it goes off in a more sinister and macabre direction till the end where Infinite Livez finishes it off with his usual brand of surreal humour and twisted logic. This is a real visionary track and features some nice production and moving about of rappers. With the track, Blufoot has created a camplit cypher and a posse cut to die for. © ukhh.com 1999 - 2005 |
