Ian Beef Pleased to Meat You, With Beats to Please You LP
Simple concept this one, emcee Majesta eats some of his mates (Ian Beef’s) beef stew, which has been spiked with a blend of herbs. As a result, Ian Beef is able to rap the entire album in his unique, meaty way, using Majesta as the vessel. Unsurprisingly, this is one off the wall album, of which you’ll have nothing like it in your collection. Whilst that may not prove an incentive to buy it, it is surprisingly good.
From the moment you see the track listing of things like “Suckaz Get Braized” and “Beef Curtains” you know you’re in for some jokes. No more so than the hilarious skit where Ian Beef manages to fend of an attempted jacking of his brisket steak. From a pure musical point of view, even when Majesta is using the guise of Ian Beef for comedy value, his skills on the microphone are still there for all to hear… even if he is screaming “where my mother f**king geese at?!” The beats too are impressive, with tracks like “Spitroast” getting a healthy head nod on every listen.
Whether or not this album has any longevity remains to be seen, as I’d guess that once the jokes wear thin, then this LP will have considerably less going for it. Still, with heavy standalone tracks such as “Suckaz Get Braized”, there is likely to be more than an empty cocoon once the jokes have died.
