All Time Greats Nothing Special Vol. 1 LP
All Time Greats is a compilation or a collection of associates I guess, thrown under the guise of one name. ‘Nothing Special Vol. 1’ may well be named for the purpose of under-hyping this release (see rubbish film ‘The Producers’ as precursor), but thankfully for anyone who’s parted cash for this release, you will indeed find something special~(vol. 1).
Kicking off with Rup & See’s awesome ‘Time Quake’ which was released recently as a 7”, this LP gets off to a bang. From then on, the album floats along through a majority of instrumental tracks, the vast amount of which serve up vivid imagery through their musical depictions. The sparse use of lyrics, or even vocal samples on the tracks adds to the excitement when it does appear, such as the fun lyrics on Hansel The Unicorns rather bizarre ‘Rat Face Girl’. Overall the quality of workmanship is blindingly obvious, and although many of the names may be new to you, this is no slap dashed compilation.
‘Nothing Special Vol. 1’ is a misnomer, because this LP is rammed full of special little treats, all with something refreshing to offer. Whilst this might do the album an injustice, this is perfect music to fall asleep to or to help you wind down and Odity’s track with smooth vocalist Colleen Quinn is a case in point! This LP is a real treat that came like a bolt from the blue, good job ATG!
