Dirty Diggers The Pleasure Is All Mine LP
It’s been about two and a half years since the Dirty Diggers chugged onto the UK hip-hop map. Laying the foundations with an EP (Diggers Don't Get Days Off) and their debut LP 'Freakishly Strong' its time to see whether Young Max & Pat Stash have built upon their quality debut and see just how freakishly strong the debut was.
'The Pleasure Is All Mine' weighs in at a round 13 tracks, and like its predecessor explores the full range of beats, breaks and lyrics created by this talented duo. Once more you get the feeling that every lyric from 'It'll Be OK' to 'Cuts & Bruises' has been drawn from personal experiences, and recreated in sound so that every snare to every riff rings true.
This album resonated with me in a variety of ways, particularly with the diversity of the sound that very little hip-hop has in the last couple of years. 'It'll Be OK' particularly, and that’s the beauty and simplicity music. Great lyrics have a deeper meaning than the superficial.
That’s where these two stand out from the crowd; delivering straight up, humorous yet honest lyrics over their own creations, with 'U.V', 'The Goodun Tune' & 'Bang On It' standing out above the rest in terms of lyrical impact, and the range of content.
The other major difference is the number of quality collabs they've hooked up for this LP; Micall Parkinsun & Rup on the mic, Alice Russell & Fourteen Corners on the vocals, Nostalgia 77 & 42 Blues on the boards, and DJ Woody on the cut.
The Diggers have moved the bar up once more with this LP. A more mature and thoughtful approach to this doesn't detract from the humour and the production and delivery is just as polished as you'd expect. Plenty of pleasant surprises wrapped up in this package, particularly listen out for the kazoo solo....inspired!
Get this album; make sure the pleasure isn't just all mine.
