Dirtbag Committee Dirty As Sin LP
If you’ve never heard of the Dirtbag Committee before, they’re a collective of artists hailing from the Southwest, consisting of Junior Disprol, Turrok (aka Turroe), Qred & Slugga Tee, amongst numerous others. Billing themselves as a back-to-basics, no-frills rhymes and sick cuts, this was always going to be something for those into no nonsense Hip Hop.
That’s exactly what you get, with 15 tracks of full throttle rawness. The beats are all break based and dark vibed. There’s not much room for happy, happy boom bap on this shit I can tell you. The dark vale never really lifts, certainly off the production and it’s only the occasional slice of humour from the emcees that lightens the mood. The emceeing is a bit more varied however and with Welsh, Bristol and Southcoast based rappers, there’s a plethora of not only accents, but content and style.
This will appeal to those who are happy to listen to a whole album and get totally immersed in it’s offering. For me, I found the unbroken doom and gloom a bit hard to stomach, but there’s 3-4 gems on here that are worth getting ever so slightly depressed over.
