Various Artists Suspect Files – Volume 4 LP
Wow, we are already on volume 4? Disorda’s certainly rattling these compilations off that’s for sure. This is yet more of the same, 19 tracks of underground UK Hiphop compiled in one place, educating the masses.
Whilst this volume, like the others before it, presents some artists you’ve probably never heard of, there’re also some of the more established artists like Ric Branson, Verb T, Menace & Pentalk. Still, it’s a pick & mix of Hiphop and inevitably with this comes some you like, some you don’t. Tracks like the bland “Nice Days” by Pat D & Lady Paradox and the painful GZ ft. DJ Lok “Don’t Shoot” are a major disappointments, but there are many solid tracks. The never disappointing Menace & RC “Snakes Pass” which is one some A-Team sounding tip and the lyrically blessed Sonnyjim on “The Pecking Order” are two examples amoungst many. It’s also worth noting that Remus appears on this release. Who’s Remus? Well, it’s Farma G’s son! How old do I feel!
The variety to this type of project is it’s strength and also it’s weakness, but providing the price is right, “Suspect Files” will always offer a silver platter of material that would allude all but the most dedicated MySpace digger.
