Big Cakes S.K.I.M. LP
After dropping the party banger “Holla At The Girls”, Mr Kipling aka Big Cakes has wasted no time in capitalising by releasing the “S.K.I.M.” LP. Any like his single, this is a slice of big London life.
Everything about this album transports your mind to the streets of London, much like “Gangster Chronicle” did back in the day. No matter where you were in the world, you could stick it on and see the grey streets and red buses. “S.K.I.M.” is unashamedly full of big sounds, which although not made in the classical ‘break beat’ manner, are perfectly crafted and more importantly, loud! Big Cakes himself is able to hold a whole album down with what is a relatively simple style, but perfect for what it wants to achieve.
It may all be about road and ends, but this is rawer than sushi and it tastes blinking great. With similarities to Fallacy’s massively underrated “Blackmarket Boy”, this LP offers so much and Big Cakes deserves some recognition for it. Definitely one to check.
