The Quantic Soul Orchestra Tropidelico LP
How does Will Holland do it? Still in his mid-twenties, I’ve lost count of how many great albums he’s released over the years under his various guises.
His Quantic Soul Orchestra project has tunes licensed to hundreds of compilations and TV shows and has sold over 60,000 records worldwide.
For this album the band reflect on travels to Columbia mixed with that classic Soul Orchestra funk ethic.
The results are a fusion of soul, Cumbia, Latin and hip hop sounds, recorded with the help of legendary local musicians from Columbia.
Right from the word go, the title tracks oozes Latin style and the type of instrumental funk we are used to from the QSO.
Hip hop MC J Live features on the incredibly funky ‘She Said What?’ which will probably be the most popular track owing to its cross over value.
The album also has down tempo moments, characterized by tracks like the jazzy ‘Who Knows’ which has samples previously used by RJD2, and the gloriously relaxed soulful vibes of ‘Father’.
If you don’t like Latin music, then you wont like this, but it is bound to find favour with all Tru Thoughts fans as that irresistible QSO style is there for all to see once again.
