Chain of Command Rogue State LP

If you don’t know, these guys (along with DJ Snuff) are the fellas who run the ever popular Speakers Corner night in Brixton which I believe either has or is about to come to an end. Either way, you know that anything that comes from this camp is guaranteed to be real Hip Hop and that’s exactly what you get with the ‘Rogue State’ EP/LP (I shall discuss this later on; all in good time).

With a theme reflecting the global and local issues surrounding states, this is a well thought out and delivered project. Ok, so they’re clearly not the first (hell even Capone N Norega did ‘War Report’) but they’ve certainly got all the necessary shit together. ‘Not In My Name’ discusses the anger at the British Government for undertaking their various crusades in the public’s name. Not only is the subject matter on point, but it also has a beat hard enough to bring buildings down more effectively than any cruise missile! The self-titled ‘Chain of Command’ is as equally hard hitting lyrically and on the boards. In fact, between them, Chemo and Beatbutcha produce more noise than the cast of Stomp on speed, banging!

My only real whinge is that it’s not clear if this is an album or an EP and at 10 tracks long with three of those being instrumentals, you’ll want a bloody good price if this is released as an album! Still the undenying quality that reins throughout is definitely worth your attention, so don’t sleep because… well it’s the cousin of death isn’t it?
