Color Climax Plug It In LP
Named after a named after an infamous and unconventional Danish pornography production house, Coventry dwellers Color Climax definitely come in at the funkier end of the Hip hop spectrum.
Having emerged at the start of the decade after several solid 7”s’ on Breakin Bread, Color Climax have finally released their full studio debut LP, ‘Plug It In’. Their organic approach to making music has won many admirer, including yours truly, having been introduced to the 4-man band via the bad ass ‘Batidas Latinas’ single. As that single name would suggest Latin funk, library music, the Hammond Organ and old school breaks are all part of the musical fabric, but it’s where Color Climax use vocalists that they come unstuck as in the lightweight ‘She Took My Love’.
Album highlights include ‘Pa Coco Solo’, with its bouncy, good-time vibes, the retro film score sounding ‘Jellyfish Popcorn and the aforementioned, funky-as-fuck ‘Batidas Latinas’. ‘Disque O Heights’ sees a digital-emphasis along with riposte flute and driving strings – job’s a-good’un!

Color Climax definitely come in at the funkier end of the Hip hop spectrum.
