Twyman Flight Of The Drums LP
Following on from his 2006 release ‘Beats From The First Age’ EP, comes ‘Flight Of The Drums – Beats From The Second Age’. Anyone unfamiliar with this Londoner’s work needs to know one fundamental thing, this guy is a serious producer!
With all but one track on this album being totally instrumental, this is obviously a producer who believes enough in their beats to allow them to shine on there own, rather than to furnish an emcees needs and ego. Believe in them he rightly should though, as this master craftsman of the beats has sculpted some real works of art. Sounding something similar to an early Lewis Parker, and that’s no poor comparison, Twyman has you travelling along his stories with the greatest of ease.
Without being too airy-fairy, some of the beats could be described as fairly chilled, such as the oriental ‘Full Moon Domain’, whilst other moody pieces really strike some chords like the uplifting ‘Mystery Of Ages’ (very LP!!!). With the one track that does feature more than just the odd cut up sentence, ‘Code Cracking’ feat. Danny Skilton, Twyman shows that he’s more than capable of producing beats that emcees can spit over.
There’s no doubting the class of this release, so it’s merely a case of whether or not instrumental Hiphop is your deal. If it is though, then ‘Flight Of The Drums’ is something to check out for and the fact that it’s available on vinyl is also a plus point!
