 Creators The Weight LP

"The Weight" is over and the creators have again blessed us with a gem of an album that will give the UK scene some much needed international exposure. The Source has already praised these English beat makers for their talents.

The album features the best in underground mc's from both sides of the Atlantic; including Evidence (Dilated), Lootpack, Out Da Ville, Mos Def and Kweli. From the 14 tracks the best has to be "The Kronkite" featuring Phil Da Agony (likwit collation). The gothic piano loops sound like one of the Rza's wet dreams. It is the epitome of the dark, atmospheric sound that UK producers have become known for. Phil Da Ag destroys the track but fuck knows what he is going on about half the time;

"I spend another $100 on Nikes
Whilst they give another million to Mike
Something just ain't right.
But when he wants to, he can throw in witty punch lines and wordplay;
Periodically,
I flow a rap odyssey
that smacks you in the face and accepts your apology.
P- H- I- L- da agony
smoke more smoke than the smoke from your factory.
accurately, aiming
top gaming
Phil da agony I just had to throw the name in."

Another star on the album has to the track with Nottingham's "Out Da Ville", who seem to sound a little too American- but otherwise I cant knock them. The theme for "street conexions" is ambiguous but is primarily concerned about paranoia and getting loot.

There are 28 tracks (14 skits, which you actually find yourself listening to because the beats are phat) and there is only a couple I don't rate. This album is a must for all fans of UKHH. The creators have avoided the conventional and expected cameos by having underground cats such as; Mike Zoot, Consequence, El Da Sensei and F.T. and the beats are just as original, no two sounding the same. These producers are clearly aiming for an international audience because there are only two English groups present and that is my only criticism. Why is there no Taskforce or Rodney P? But I can forgive them because this is a heavy album. The concept is original and so are the organic beats, they were obviously listening to Kweli on "Another World":

Lead by example,
stay away from repetition
don't want to sound like a sample.

This is the best English releash that I have heard to date..
