The Jump Off On The Road

The Jump Off is a DVD which includes a number of different “Street Dance” battles and emceeing battles, thrown together with a few other bits and bobs. The mainstay of the DVD seems to be the various emcee battles, with one man in particular, Professor Green, being centre of attention.

This midge-modge of loads of different things proves that variety isn’t always the spice of life. Most of the scenes are very short and edited, meaning you never get a real feel for the battles, just the highlights. Whilst this would be understandable for the preliminaries, for the semis and finals you want to see the whole shebang. It’s obvious from the clips you do see, that some of the people featured are very talented, which makes the lack of coverage even more frustrating. If you’re into your dancing then the quality of some of the Street Dancing is superb. Even if you’re from a breaking background, you can’t help but respect the choreography behind a lot of it. On the flip, some of the emcee battles are fairly weak, full of have-a-go’ers who look like they’ve never been on stage before.

In the sea of fasted edited footage, there are some tasty treats to behold. The chances are though you’ll feel a little let down by the lack completeness and be frustrated at it’s pace! If Jump Off 2 ever happens, I’d hope that lessons are learned, because this could have been so much better than it was.
