This is a long mixtape - a full 100 minutes of pure uk hiphop. The tape steps with the usual format - lots of shout outs back to back with full tracks. The mixing isnt fancy - nothing too complex - just straight blends n' maintaining a good vibe with a tight track selection. This tape is packed with top uk bizness and features a wide number of labels. This is definitely the mid-summer tape to pick up if you want to get an update on all the latest tracks hittin the spot throughout the early stages of 2002 - so theres no excuse for not being educated. That said - some chunks of the tape are quite London-centric - but theres still offerings from across the UK - with Doyen D, Junior Disprol, Haych, Cappo and Deftex sitting alongside capital based artists like Taskforce, Rodney P, SuperNova, Blak Twang, Universal Soldiers, etc, etc and etc. With 21 tracks on the a-side and 16 more on the flipside your not going to get a step by step rundown - but trust it will cater for the tastes of any uk hiphop kiddie. On the negative side I'm not a big fan of continual shout outs running throughout a tape - it gets a bit boring n' by the third listen it gets tedious cos you blatently know who's involved in making the tape. At times the mixing feels a bit sketchy and the volume levels do bobble about between tracks - but this is possibly just a byproduct of combining music mastered to different standards from bedrooms to professional setups. This doesnt really effect the flow of the tape - which stays extremely listenable. As a bonus if you havent got autoreverse on your stereo you'll be relieved to know theres a generous 50 minutes to knit more of that ja-rule jumper before you've gotta get up n' flip the tape. Overall, this is an excellent good value tape. Its long length allows a lot of diversity in style which makes it a nice interesting headphone tape for trotting the streets - or better yet you could be rollin this thru your stereo whilst reading through the latest issue of Big Smoke. If you pick this up you can be sure that they'll be something to bop your head n' it'll give you a great impression on the midterm state of uk hiphop in 2002.
