J2 & Hudson The Off The Hook Soundhog 60 (mixtape)

This is a mixtape associated with the regular Derby hiphop night 'Off The Hook'. The tape is a tight little mix of US n' UK hiphop plus some homemade cut n' paste break medleys - all dibbled through by shoutouts n' some skills from 'Off The Hook' DJ residents J2 and Hudson.

The tape doesnt really showcase much scratchin but relies upon good track selection and some precise blending - this keeps the tape flowin and makes for slick headphone listening. The a-side has the biggest amount of hiphop flavour and drops classic tracks from Aspects, K Solo, EPMD, Main Source, etc - all smoothly segwayed with little soul n' funk break snips - this side has the headnod factor in full effect. The b-side goes for the slicker edge n' definitely brings more smiles -aka it goes less hiphop oriented- taking over with more funk, soul n' reggae flavour - this was my favourite side n' got plenty of rewinds. I was particularly feelin the DIY break medley through the middle of this side - which alongside Jonny Osbournes 'No Ice Cream Sound' and Pitman's 'Pitman Sez' gave me nuff chuckles.

Overall - a tight non-turntablist tape which is swift on the mix and smart on the track selection - a wicked tape for creating the right relaxed mood. If your interested in checkin the lineup for forthcoming shows or wanna pocket a copy of this tight tape then check their website linked below. There both gonna be good value for your squids.
