Cambridge's DJ Element comes into my stereo with a very good tape. Produced with two decks n' a pause button this is a proper bedroom tape - but thats why its so good. Its not coming messy with 3 minute scribbles n' hectic everlasting beat juggles.... its all nicely toned down and relaxed with SOME MIXING!!! Yup a mixtape with mixing - profound foresight from Element on that one. Anyways - decknically its good - tight scratches and good beatmatching but all with the emphasis on letting the tracks themselves do the talking. Theres no mistakes in terms of track selection either - and thats a reallt positive thing to say - you wanna know why? Cos its a FAT FUCKIN' 90 (90) Ninety 9 X 10 minutes long.... it'll give you neckache mate. The tracks are a mix of UK n' N.American underground shizz - roughly evenly spread between the two sides of the ocean. Featuring tracks from Cella Dwella's, Taskforce, Planets, J-zone, Swollen members, Lootpack, Karl Hinds, etc - you get the idea. Also within the mix there are some nice instrumentals n' beat breakdowns which add a nice breather again just adding to the feel of overall quality which you get when listening through both sides. This is his third mixtape and its obviously refined the mixtape construction skills over time - I praise this tape a lot cos its enjoyable but doesnt delve into the hohohoho (not funny) highly amusing or sample based bollox used on other tapes. Straight hiphop to the core - get a copy. If you wanna treat yourself then contact ElementDJ@hotmail.com for yours ..... good stuff. © ukhh.com 1999 - 2000 |
