DJ 2Tall Writer's Block (mixtape)
Formerly of the Truiscians, 2tall has routines and beats for days. His live skills are legendary and his name is synonymous with a healthy British turntablism scene. Here, he presents a mixtape which has some great exclusives, some crazy drops (including a hilarious big-up from Slick Rick where he repeatedly either forgets what he has to say or gets 2tall's name wrong.) good inclusions from the perennial second-fiddle, Insight, showing why he needs more column inches. Two offerings from Lowkey show the man realising his potential, especially on the DJ Snips-produced "Politics" where he demonstrates an articulate in-depth analysis of shady goings-on in the world today. A frantic Rahzel freestyle and moody blues from Scouse up-and-comers the Antiheroes patch things together nicely. The ever-excellent Louis Logic is also featured as part of the Odd Couple. This is a good solid mixtape that is consistent and evolving and works well as a choice selection of British and US underground (and Kanye West). Hopefully more will be coming from 2Tall in the future, and if his beat for "Class In Session" with Lowkey is anything to go by, I look forward to hearing more of his own productions. Pick up and big up.
