9inekeyz Beatz & Grammer Vol. 1 (mixtape)
‘Beatz & Grammer Vol. 1’ is 9inekeyz’s next step after releasing the rather tasty single ‘Whispers’. As a mix up (not really a true mixtape), it’s only right that after a brief introduction, the single kicks off proceedings. From there, Keyz uses a variety of well known beats and some other mash ups to display his lyrical prowess.
Some of these beats have flown under my radar, but there are some choice picks. The most recognisable being the O.D.B. banger ‘Where’s Your Money?’ which is blessed to perfection. The lyrical content is vastly different from the original, but no question of it fitting the beat perfect. Still, it’s perhaps the beats that I don’t instantly recognise that produce the best tracks for me. Maybe that’s because you’re not trying to make needless comparisons with the originals. ‘M.I.L.F.’ is a prime example, with it’s floaty keyboard riff and subtle bass, 9inekeyz rhymes about the more mature lady in a chilled out way, producing a track which would be ripe for a good danceflooring!
There is no escaping that this is far from being a complete album, or indeed a mixtape offering skilful deejay-pokery. It is however a platform for an up and coming artist to show the listening public that they are one to watch. On this basis, providing he hooks up some tight production and comes as good, but ideally even better on the lyrical side, then a full album may well be worth a try.
