10 Shott Ghetto Brick Road (mixtape)
With one of the most off putting front covers of 2006 comes ‘Ghetto Brick Road’ by Wolverhampton’s 10 Shott. Wolftown Recordings should try go easy on the Master P style CD covers, because this may unjustly turn away people who, given the chance, would be gobbling up their music.
Once you’ve winced and put the CD in your deck though, your expectations sky rocket for 10 Shott’s album proper. For this is just a mix CD, made up of freestyles from 2004 to 2005 over well known beats, but the quality is there for your ears to hear. Anyone who’s been down with Wolftown for time will have heard of 10 Shott before, but for those heads who this is the first introduction, it serves as a real appetite wetter! He’s an emcee clearly confident in his ruff yard Brum style, displaying why he’s an emcee on nothing but the rise. Over Kyza’s ‘Devil in a Dress’ beat, a clearly delivered two-step rhyme pattern bounces effortlessly, yet on ‘Slavery’ 10 Shott demonstrates that he’s no idiot and is more than prepared to touch deep subjects. This variety throughout the mix goes along way to making you think that 10 could easily bash out a heavy LP of his own. This is confirmed on ‘Guy Inside The Ghetto- Part 1’ which offers a glimpse of what he can without jacking beats.
Apart from the occasionally basic, yet catchy hook, 10 Shott confirms he’s one of the hottest emcees on the Wolftown roster. This is an enjoyable mix that will wet your whistle for a long player in the near future.

for those heads who this is the first introduction, it serves as a real appetite wetter!
