Dubbledge Fist of Jah! (mixtape)
Following the current US trend, Dubbledge releases a mix CD before dropping his debut LP ‘Richest Man in Babylon’. Unlike the current trend of drab, poorly thought out mix CD’s though, Dubbledge comes with something that is better than next man’s album!
To go through ‘Fist of Jah’ track by track, explaining what’s hot and what’s not would be a wasted exercise, because frankly there are no fillers on this 19 track CD. The quality of music on offer simply sways between solid and outstanding, meaning you’re unlikely to approach the skip button unless it’s to replay something incredible you’ve just delighted your ears over. Moments such as the painfully heartfelt ‘Unauthorised Loss’ or the feel good vibe of ‘The Internet Song’ are ones which you’ll want to experience on the regular, resulting in the whole CD getting heavy replays. From the charismatic, adlibbing Dubbledge, to the varied in all but it’s quality production, ‘Fist of Jah’ is in the words of the man himself “King Kong type guerrilla strong”.
Fact is, unmixed ‘Fist of Jah’ could pass as a dope LP, as it is, it’s a superbly delivered mix CD which should be placed on the essential purchase list.
