Renegade Artistry Mixtape Vol. 1 (mixtape)
Renegade Artistry is the latest label to spring up from the UK’s underground and unlike many other labels before them, they don’t drop the usual 12” or two, they go the whole hog and release a 23 mix CD. This clearly shows how seriously they are taking things, but also the large pool of artists they have on their books for release.
For every Skinnyman, Wordsmith & Mr. Scaramanga, you’ve got less know artists making their way, such as Rebel Alliance, Candid & Dundee. This makes the DJ X-Kutz mix not only one with some exclusives from the cream of UK artists, but also a healthy voyage of discovery for those hungry to delve that little bit deeper. Like many mixes where the artists, not to mention the tracks are fairly new to the listener, it always takes a few run-throughs to really get into. It’s worth it though, for you’ll come across tracks like the powerfully soulful ‘Tortured City’ by Blind Alphabetz & Mr. Scaramanga or the Kritect Ill mini mega mix ‘Kritect Ill’ who comes across as one well worth keeping an eye out for.
This is a tightly mixed bag of tracks which will interest those who want to really keep their ears to the underground. If this label has their way though, it’s likely you’ll be hearing from some of these artists in the near future… lets hope so!
