Micall Parknsun The Interview Mixtape (mixtape)
Certainly wasn’t expecting another Micall Parknsun album so soon after the incredible ‘Working Class Dad’ and whilst this is technically a mixtape, the pure exclusiveness throughout all 18 tracks along with the fact the tracks are played in near full means that for all intent and purpose, ‘The Interview Mixtape’ is a second album from the highly rated Parky. What’s even more impressive is that he follows up such a banging project, with one that is admittedly not as complete, but possibly heavier track for track.
There’s no filler throughout the 18 tracks, which is very impressive for a solo artist mixtape, as most have a few old demo scraps lying around which make the grade. Not this one though, from the Arabic sounding ‘Freedom Fighters’ feat. Ram, Kyza, Jehst & Klashnekoff to the almighty emotion churner ‘Some How’, this is rammed full of singles! Even when Parky’s not centre of attention and smashing it on the boards or mic, he’s drafted in some of the highest class production bods and some proven emcees, like the Secondson produced ‘Don’t Talk’ which has Humurak D Gritty dropping the line “no wealth, still a dargen dan, Cardiff man, so speak a little Somali slang”… regional sickness!
There’s no reason on this earth why you shouldn’t dig in your pockets to fork out for this. Micall Parknsun has proven for a second time that he’s an artist with incredible talent and can hold down long players easier than most. ‘The Interview Mixtape’ is something special and when listened to in isolation or ideally in conjunction with his ‘Working Class Dad’ album, you’ll be convinced as I am, that this man is one of the top five UK artists right now.
