Mr. Convenience The Talented Mr. Convenience Mixtape (mixtape)
I hate to rake up old graves (ok well maybe I don’t because I’m about to), but I thought we’d moved beyond the whole accent thing? Now it’s possible that Mr. Convenience actually moved from the Big Smoke to Penzance, in which case fair enough, but the fact the press release says “coming fresh out the farmyard” me thinks not. Exactly what farmyard he’s repping is unclear, Uncle Barney’s City Farm is an educated guess?
Oh well, talent outshines all else so as long as he comes proper I guess it’s all academic like pyjama looking tracksuits. He certainly aims for the shine with big sounds Kayne West style, I mean Nina Simone “Feeling Good”? That’s a big tune to sample right there! He even covers Kayne’s “Gold Digger”, albeit badly. Fact is, these tracks don’t sound as comfortable as the more low key productions, such as the mellow head-nodder “Working Hard” or the nice and bubbly floss track “Glasses High”. Mr. C does have some lyrics, with good similes and all round presence on the M.I.C, it’s just a shame they sometimes sound a bit slow and samey.
This is only a mixtape project, made up of little bits and bobs, so it’s possible that when the album proper appears, you’ll hear something a little tighter from Mr. Convenience. Going on this project, there’s clearly an emcee with a lot of confidence and presence, it just sounds like he needs a little more focus and direction to produce something a little more exciting.
