Humurak D Gritty Blood of a Slave... Heart of a King (mixtape)

After what I would consider to be one of the most impressive 2006’s output wise, Humurak D Gritty delivers one last heavy hitting blow before the year was out and that David Haye force blow comes in the form of a debut mixtape “Blood of a Slave… Heart of a King”.

With the Gritty-ness you’d expect, there are 23 tracks of pure lyricism from the straight up battle one liners that he’s perfected through years of battering the Open Mic circuit, through to the urban story ‘ish which he seems to be rapidly perfecting. The beats used are generally big time US dubs, which suit well and show that whilst he’s got plenty of lyrical ability to please beard stroking Anticon fans, he’s also in touch with what the streets are listening too! The remix of “Nothing 2 Say” is the best example of this and as a result has some mass appeal like Gangstarr!

This mixtape is a big step forward in his career as it shows an emcee evolving from a raw, battle hungry emcee, into someone who is going to be able to construct a meaningful and interesting album… something I had previously doubted. This can only mean that 2007 is going to bring big things from K-Gritty, but in the meantime, “Blood of a Slave… Heart of a King” will serve as more than ample music to pleasure those ear lugs.
