Killa Tomato Better By Far (mixtape)
“Better By Far” is possibly a new Ronseal product, for this does what it says on the tin, or in this case the erm yeah, case. For this mix CD proclaims “22 tracks of dope cuts, funk, breaks and samples woven together with choice accapellas for your listening pleasure” and that’s certainly not off the mark.
If your any kind of a Hiphop fan, you’ll have heard all these tracks before. “Wait” I hear you say “surely this precludes the need for me to purchase this compact disc”, WRONG. You’ve not heard them like this before trust me. Some well-known accapellas are blended with funk tracks, breaks and other instrumentals. It’s done with the kind of craft you need to pull off what could potentially feel like Hiphop’s version of bubble and sqeak, reheated mush. In fact to hear some relatively commercial tracks laid over real funky break shows just how fine the line can be between más wack and menos wack.
Killa Tomato shows once again that producing a mix CD can be a voyage of discovery, even if you think you recognise most of the tracks.
